  1. Tell us about Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and your role within!
 
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is a local authority that was established on 01 April 2015 and it covers an area of just over 400 square miles extending from the River Bann in the west to the Antrim coast in the east and includes part of the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are three main towns, Ballymena, Carrickfergus and Larne, and a host of villages and rural communities which are home to a population of just circa 140,000 people.
 
I am Director of Community and my directorate includes Community Planning, Parks & Open Spaces Development, Indoor Leisure and Sports Development, Environmental Health, Emergency Planning, and Capital Projects.
 
  1. What has been your career journey so far?
 
I started out in the hospitality industry and then worked for two private gyms before moving to Belfast City Council in 2004, where I held a number of roles before tupeing to GLL in 2015 and then moving to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council in 2018.
 
  1. Describe yourself in 3 words.

  1. What is the 1 skill that helps you the most in your role? 
 
Problem solving
 
  1. Do you have any advice for your fellow Women in Local Government?
 
‘Where there is a will there is a way’ so keep an open mind and never stop seeking input from others. I would also urge women to keep an eye on what's going on outside of local government as this wider awareness can help spark creativity and innovation.
 
  1. Are there any exciting plans on the way for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council?
 
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has been shortlisted for two prestigious iESE Public Sector Transformation Awards, in the categories of ‘Council of the Year’ and ‘Best Community Focus’ and the results will be announced in September 2021.
 
  1. Who is an inspiration in your career?
 
There is no one person. Throughout my career it has been the colleagues and friends that I work with as well as my family.
 
  1. What’s your favourite break time snack?
 
Anything chocolate!
