60 Seconds with Louise Smyth of Hays

Tell us about Hays and your role within!

I’m a Key account manager working at Hays contract IT & Digital technology. I offer clients the best IT talent and solutions to their recruitment needs.

 

What has been your career journey so far?

After graduating in 2009, I worked as student support officer for students with disabilities, then moved onto a full-time job as a dispenser at Boots pharmacy. In 2011 I left for London and secured a job in a large recruitment company but returned in 2012 to join Hays, Belfast. I have never looked back even after 9 years.

Passionate, Hardworking, Good humoured

 

What is the 1 skill that helps you the most in your role? 

Perseverance

 

Do you have any advice for your fellow Women in Recruitment?

Writing this on international women’s day - “We are more powerful when we empower each other”

 

Are there any exciting plans on the way for Hays?

It is a very exciting time to work in IT & Digital recruitment as Belfast continues to be placed as a growing global tech hub and because of this we are growing internally to offer our clients the best talent and service. We can offer a variety of recruitment solutions including agency contractors as well as a SOW consultants via our consultancy arm James Harvard.

 

Who is an inspiration in your career?

I work with very like-minded people so my colleagues inspire me daily.

 

What’s your favourite break time snack?

I should say a banana but I’m a sucker for a kinder Bueno

 

If you had to pick your soundtrack song to get you through the working day, what would it be?

On those tough days, ‘Im still standing’ Sir Elton John who can resist this upbeat 80’s hit?
