Bridgeen Callan is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Ulster University. A co-inventor of the Klas Therapeutics IP and a chemist by training with a specialism in pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmaceutics. Bridgeen has over 20 years' experience in academia in the discovery, formulation and evaluation of new drug candidates. She has been PI on several academic grants and co-investigator on many more, with significant managerial experience having secured over £1M in research grant income. She has been the academic supervisor to more than 10 PhD students and line manager for many post-doctoral research associates. She is a member of AwakenHub as well as a Catalyst ‘female role model’ for young entrepreneurs and an Athena Swan Champion. Bridgeen founded klas in 2021, where she began the role of chief scientific officer before advancing to the CEO position and has recently seconded into the company on a full-time basis. To date, she has secured over £1M in grant investment for the technology as well as having won the Catalyst Invent competition, the Intertrade Ireland seedcorn reginal finals and been awarded a women in TechEU award.
